Learning and development
Investing in our employees so they can thrive, today and tomorrow
The world of work is changing, fast. More than ever, we’re committed to helping our employees build skills to use now and nurture capabilities for the future. This paradigm shift is also why our learning offering emphasizes future skills development, including critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and emotional intelligence, alongside new topics such as data literacy, AI and change management strategies to navigate ambiguity in this rapidly evolving environment . Our ultimate goal is to enable employees to thrive in a fast-changing, technology driven environment and remain lifelong learners.

“Around the world, our employees completed more than 2.3 million learning activities last year – nearly two training days per employee.”
Leadership drives culture – the kind of agile, collaborative, inclusive and innovative culture that supports positive change for our clients, employees and society at large. That’s why we’ve got high expectations for all our leaders, and why we spell out those expectations – and accountability for living up to it – in our House View on Leadership. Key concepts of our philosophy are embedded in bespoke training and leadership development programs, and in our performance management and senior management recruiting processes.
All of our leadership development programs aim to build skills, inspire, and promote agility, inclusive leadership and innovative thinking among current and future leaders. We launched a new Growth Alignment Experience in 2023 for Associate Director and Director-level employees in the US identified through a self-nomination process. Over a six-month period, 50 initial participants worked with external coaches to enhance their strategic planning skills, build connections and expand their networks.
Our in-house UBS University helps our employees build skills to use now, along with new capabilities for the future. We offer industry-leading certification for client advisors, line manager and leadership development, advisory and sales training, digital and data literacy skills development, and practical learning on culture, sustainable finance, well-being and other topics. Our innovative learning experience platform makes AI-powered training recommendations based on an employee’s needs and interests. Altogether, our permanent employees completed more than 2.3 million learning activities in 2023 (including mandatory training on compliance, business, and other topics) – an average of 1.91 training days per employee.
We want our employees to be able to build interesting careers here. Managers are expected to promote individual development and job mobility; at the same time, employees are asked to have regular development-focused check-ins with their manager to spur growth. Support is found in our Career Navigator platform – a suite of self-service tools and resources that includes networking and mentoring opportunities, career path and training guidance, access to short-term rotations, and mobility tools like an online job board accessed by more than 44,000 employees in 2023.
We take a systematic approach to talent management, offering Group-wide, divisional and function-specific talent programs that target employees at all career stages and ones open to women and employees from diverse backgrounds. Annual talent and succession reviews help ensure that we’ve got strong talent pipelines and succession plans.
