Explaining the FPA's choice of UBS, Thomas Michaud, President and CEO of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, said "At the FPA we believe no business can flourish if the communities in which it does business do not prosper as well. This is correct and absolutely reflects what UBS does globally within the corporate social responsibility area."
Sergio Ermotti highlighted UBS's approach during his acceptance speech in New York. In 2013, UBS and its employees globally volunteered 90,000 hours and the firm gave nearly CHF 50 million to organizations working in these areas. "We are a Swiss bank, yet we are a company with 60,000 employees around the globe. For this reason we dedicate ourselves to a number of projects and initiatives around the world with a special emphasis on education and entrepreneurship projects." he said upon receiving the award.
