Off-Cycle Internship Program

Our 3–12-month program will immerse you in the world of finance where you’ll work alongside some of the best minds in the industry.

Our program in a nutshell

Ready to learn the ins and outs of our industry? Whether you’re in advisory services, financing solutions, researching capital trends or providing clients with access to the markets, your learning experience will be comprehensive.

This flexible program is ideal for anyone looking to intern outside of the summer period. It’s a paid internship that lasts 3–12 months (typically 6). And if you like the experience, you may get the opportunity to join our UBS Graduate Talent Program afterwards. Part-time internships are also available in some regions as we understand you might need more time to work towards your degree.

Your development

As an intern with us, you’ll get invaluable hands-on experience in global financial services and insights to help you define your career. In addition to professional skills, you’ll also gain a network of colleagues and the opportunity to move into our UBS Graduate Training Program if you excel in your internship.

All the support you need

From the moment you join, you’ll be supported by our Junior Talent team for anything you might need, along with your line manager and buddy. We also have opportunities for further informative sessions to broaden your skill set. Case studies, business speeches, and networking opportunities with colleagues will round out your experience.

What we look for and when to apply

You don’t need a degree in finance to be eligible, but we love performance-driven people who share their unique perspectives. Ideally, you’re a people person who doesn’t shy away from a good challenge. The world of finance is fast paced, but we’re known for thoughtful and well-defined solutions. It’s how we’ve come this far. We’re a great place to build a career, so bring your ambitions and we’ll match them.

It's complex as a student to be 100% confident of which professional journey is right for you, at least for me it was. When I applied for the off-cycle internship program, I chose Global Banking because I was interested in the subject from an academic standpoint, but most importantly, I thought it was the right environment to feel challenged every day, experience the steepest learning curve possible, and be surrounded by motivated and brilliant colleagues.

How to apply

Our process is designed to be objective and fair. We want everyone to have equal chances to drive recruitment success. Recruitment stages may differ slightly (according to program and region).

We make it very easy to apply, just submit an online application and upload your CV/resume.

Since we don’t ask for cover letters in most regions, let your CV do all the talking to reflect who you are. We want to hear about your hobbies, your interests, academic achievements, work experience and what you’ve learned from these experiences.

Be sure to check out our ten step interactive roadmap to recruitment readiness.

Everyone is welcome at UBS. And we’re committed to disability inclusion and making sure our application process is accessible for everyone. If you need reasonable accommodation/adjustments throughout our recruitment process, you can always contact us.

We have four types of online assessments:

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Numerical reasoning
  • UBS Culture Match

The assessments you’re assigned will be dependent on the business area you’re applying to. They need to be completed within seven days of receiving the invitation email. Please note, you won’t be able to complete the assessments after the deadline. You also won’t be able to retake them, so make sure you can focus.

AON’s website offers some practice assessments.

Why do companies use online assessments?

The abilities and behaviors we learn about from them are a great way to get unbiased information about the candidate.

What are the verbal or numerical reasoning tests about?

These look at how you draw logical conclusions from complex verbal or numerical information from tables and charts.

    And the inductive-logical reasoning test?

This is a fun one. You’ll be looking at logical rules in patterns and then applying them to different sets of patterns.

    Our UBS Culture Match

Realistic, hypothetical work scenarios where you need to pick the most effective course of action, in line with our UBS principles and behaviors.

After passing our online assessments (and if you’re a good fit), you might receive a link to record your video interview. This is where you can make a great first impression. Dress smartly, keep good eye contact with the camera and be concise.

Worried employers are using AI to review submissions? Rest assured; our people are the ones making decisions around here.

Check out some tips for a great video interview here.

Almost there! The last stage of the process is our final round virtual or in-person interviews.

Be sure to research UBS and the business area you’re applying to. Go beyond the facts and figures.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask us questions during the interview. Let’s get a conversation going. When you speak about your experiences, give us examples and tell us a story. The outcomes, opportunities and what you might have done differently. As assessors, we want to connect with you.
