Shenzhen, 28th August 2024 – UBS Securities’ 21st China A-Share Conference will take place on 2nd and 3rd September 2024 in Shenzhen, with the theme “China’s journey to high-quality growth”. This year’s event will again bring together more than 550 investors and 110 leading corporates from across the spectrum of technology, consumer, health, new energy, materials, automation, and industrials to discuss critical topics shaping China’s next phase of growth.

Eugene Qian, China Country Head of UBS and Chairman of UBS Securities said, “We have a longstanding presence in China and have been holding our China A-share Conference for more than two decades. At this important juncture when domestic, international and geopolitical dynamics all become increasingly complex, it is critical for investors to gain insights from our expert speakers on the latest developments in China and the associated investment opportunities.”

Commenting on the China macro-economic environment, Tao Wang, Head of Asia Economics and Chief China Economist, UBS Investment Bank shared, “As China navigates this new macro-economic landscape amid a deep property downturn, policies have repeatedly underscored the shift toward high-quality growth. Following the recent Third Plenum, we now have a comprehensive blueprint with key measures to be implemented to help improve resource allocation, enhance public services, unleash some growth potential, and underpin investors’ confidence.”

This year’s conference seeks to explore the implication of the evolving environment for China’s economy, markets and businesses, asking defining questions including: What could “quality growth” mean and look like for China’s economy and companies? How does China address the complex geopolitical landscape and navigate challenging trade relationships? Have investors under-appreciated the long-term investment potential for China’s equity market?

Tommie Fang, Head of China Global Markets, UBS said, “Underpinning A-shares are the government's assurances to safeguard capital markets, and the evolving investment opportunities and vast market potentials to be unleashed along the high-quality growth journey. In particular, efforts to accelerate the development of the new quality productive forces will be key to unfold new growth drivers for the market. The China A-share market will continue to play an important role in channelling necessary resources into the innovations essential for the long-term and sustainable development of such forces.”

Across the two days and over 20 panel sessions, expert speakers and UBS analysts will provide on-the-ground perspectives on drivers behind China’s strategic shifts. In an exciting addition, attendees will also have the opportunities to experience the future of mobility firsthand through a robocar showcase and a robotaxi test ride.

This year’s speakers include:

  • Prof. Dingli Shen, Former Associate Dean of Institute of International Studies and former Director of the Center for American Studies, Fudan University
  • Wilfred Yiu, Deputy CEO, Co-COO & Co-Head of Markets, HKEx
