Volunteer work: saving food, helping those affected by poverty
Every day, volunteers in Staufen rescue tons of food that is no longer suitable for retail, but is still good to eat.
The non-profit organization “Tischlein deck dich” opened a new logistics warehouse here just under a year ago and can already count on broad support – also thanks to UBS Helpetica. Every day, the Tischlein trucks either travel back and forth between the logistics warehouse and the Coop distribution center as a Foodsave shuttle or deliver to the “Tischlein deck dich” drop-off points in the region on four different tours. The current record amount transported in a day by the Foodsave shuttles is 11.5 tons of fruit and vegetables. Saving these quantities of fruit and vegetables is only possible thanks to the time-consuming triage by volunteers. UBS Helpetica plays a facilitating practical role. The digital platform for volunteer work enables “Tischlein deck dich” and other charitable projects to make themselves better known to the public and mobilize more people. The network is open to everyone. Any non-profit organization or private individual can submit their project, as long as it serves the common good.
