Your own money, your own way

An important milestone in life: when you stand on your own two feet financially for the first time. When you’re free and independent for the first time. But with the new freedom comes significant responsibility – especially when it comes to money issues.

By taking your finances into your own hands from the very beginning, you set the course for an independent and self-determined future. Financial know-how is the first step.

This learning module will help you take this first step with confidence.

How can I live well today and tomorrow?

This is Antonia. She will finish her education soon and wants to move to the nearest big city for her first real job. She is looking forward to this exciting new chapter, but is also a bit nervous: she wonders whether her income will be enough to cover everything and how she can make sure she has enough time and money left over to fulfill her wishes and dreams.

How to turn your dreams into goals

Identify your wishes and dreams

  • First create an overview: think about who and what is important to you and what you want to achieve in the coming years and decades.
  • Think about your desired standard of living in everyday life, but also about major events: important career steps, self-employment, home ownership, partnership and marriage, family and children, a career break or even emigration.

Consider the financial consequences

  • To achieve your goals in the long term, the next step is to make them concrete.
  • The financial impact plays a major role here. How much does everyday life, your next vacation, further education, a house or a child cost? But also: do certain goals mean you have to accept a lower income for a while, for example due to part-time work or further training?
  • Even if you can’t answer all the questions, it helps to become aware of your own goals and the costs associated with them.

The key is to lay the financial foundations

One question comes above all others: “How can I position myself financially so I can achieve my goals in the short, medium and long term and live the way I want to?”

In this learning path, we’ll give you the information and tools you need to answer this question for yourself. This is how you lay the foundation for financial independence.

  • Module 1 – Initial goals: how to take your future into your own hands
  • Module 2 – Save with a plan: to make both big and small wishes come true
  • Module 3 – Save for retirement: secure your future and save on taxes
  • Module 4 – Invest with foresight: how to achieve your long-term goals
  • Module 5 – Looking to the future: how to lay the foundation for a fulfilled life

What’s my first priority?

Antonia’s first goal is to successfully manage her upcoming move and settle in quickly.

Colleagues have warned her in advance that you only realize how much life actually costs when you move out of your family home. That’s why Antonia wants to find out what costs she can expect to pay for her first apartment – and how she can keep her expenses under control.
