Reduce maternal and infant deaths in Kenya through affordable maternity hospitals
In Kenya, the share of newborns dying before their first month of life is still by a factor of ten larger than in Europe or the US. These tragic cases need not be. Women not only need access to well-equipped health clinics, but also assistance from trained personnel who can recognize and deal with complications. Jacaranda Maternity is a social enterprise which operates three low-cost maternity hospitals in Kenya and is planning to expand its footprint. Jacaranda Maternity empowers expectant mothers to receive timely, regular care throughout pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period and as a result, is faced with 66% fewer complications compared to nearby hospitals.
