The current standard of care for severe burns is skin autografting, a dated technique with sub-optimal patient outcomes. With its revolutionary process, CUTISS addresses the unmet needs of patients with severe burns and skin defects by bioengineering human skin tissue from patients.
CUTISS’s main product denovoSkin™ promises to take skin surgery to the next level and to revolutionize current treatments. Thanks to a bio-engineered and personalized dermo-epidermal human skin graft it provides life-saving and life-changing outcomes for adult and child patients. The denovoSkin™ is currently in phase IIb clinical trials in Switzerland and the EU, with Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of burns from Swissmedic, EMA, and FDA.
To secure scale up and geographical expansion CUTISS is developing the world’s first machine that can automate the entire production process of the personalized skin graft.
CUTISS’s innovation combines the principles of biology, engineering, automation, and deep-tech, and currently has no direct equivalent competitors on the market. The company’s knowledge in skin tissue engineering and biology offers several growth opportunities in regenerative medicine.
CUTISS was voted 2nd in the ‘TOP100 Swiss StartUp Awards’ in 2021, voted 1st in 2020, and has been 1st in the awards’ biotech category for three years running.
Dr Daniela Marino is the CEO of CUTISS which she co-founded in 2017. In 2019 she was named Swiss Entrepreneur of the Year at the Swiss Female Innovation Forum, and in 2021 Daniela was featured in the Swiss Confederation’s campaign “Women of Switzerland” which highlighted the contributions of women who have positively shaped Swiss society.
Originally from Southern Italy, Daniela is also a mother of two in addition to her day-job growing the company. Daniela holds a Master’s in Biotechnology and a PhD in Sciences from ETH Zurich.
