Monocle 24 Radio: Dr Suzan Murray and Kennedy Odede
Monocle 24 Radio recently hosted a conversation between two Global Visionaries about the impact of the coronavirus outbreak in developing countries and how to prevent future pandemics. SHOFCO founder Kennedy Odede explained that in the Kenyan slums people faced a stark choice between the risk of the virus while working - or staying home and starving, however in some ways he was hopeful because African countries had reacted to the threat more quickly than Western nations. Dr Murray – who leads research into coronavirus - explained how much worse a situation we would be in without the knowledge gained from science: “This is what it looks like when are prepared, believe it or not!” "There are people suffering and dying - that has to be the primary issue right now, at the same time, we knew this epidemic was coming," she added, "So while it’s hard to think of the future now, because we have such pressing humanitarian needs, I would urge everybody that it’s also not the time to let up on our preparations.“
