Cloud computing has been an enabler for our technological growth for a number of years helping us become more efficient, more agile and enabling us to give the best service to our clients. Now, cloud is becoming a real differentiator for us, and we’re seeing solutions such as UBS My Hub External winning the Banking Technology Best use of Cloud award
The power of our cloud journey and our planning has come into focus during the Covid-19 pandemic with a rapid switch to increased homeworking being necessary to enable colleagues to continue the work they do for clients and each other. Remote work was already an integral part of UBS’s ways of working before Covid-19, so our portal was already available when, almost overnight, 95% of the organization were required to work from home.
UBS My Hub External is an external-facing web app designed and developed in-house, specifically around the needs of UBS staff and employees. Its purpose is to allow employees to access the tools they need while they are all working remotely. For example, if an employee is locked out of their account because they’ve forgotten their password, My Hub External helps them reset their account securely. They can do this without having to call an IT helpdesk or needing access to the bank’s secure network. My Hub External went live in March 2020 and since its launch, together with the full suite of My Hub services, it is estimated that over 500,000 service requests to various help desks have been resolved faster and independently with employees quickly able to resolve remote access autonomously.
The hub was one element of suite of cloud technology that enabled our business and our people to collaborate, continue operating, and maintain contact to clients through a time of rapid change. The hub’s technology leverages several services within Microsoft’s Azure Cloud including: Azure Functions, Key Vault, SQL Database, WebApps and application insights. The hub also uses proprietary technology developed in house by our UBS Digital Engineering team.
