We support disability inclusion

We believe that everyone deserves equal treatment and opportunity. Our different life experiences, world perceptions and backgrounds create a unique working environment where everyone has the ability to thrive. Our global disability inclusion strategy is designed to drive meaningful progress across the organization and strengthen our culture of belonging. Aligned with our broader DE&I strategy, we focus on attracting, recruiting, hiring, supporting and developing talents with disabilities.

Proudly committed to the Valuable 500

Creating a strong, unified culture where everyone can unlock their unique potential is the foundation of our commitment to disability inclusion, and to DE&I as a whole. This dedication is reflected in the steps we've taken to help ensure our employee and client-facing spaces are inclusive and accessible.

In May 2021, UBS signed up to the Valuable 500 – a collective of 500 CEOs and their companies working together to end disability exclusion. As part of our commitment, we continuously work to improve the accessibility of our recruitment and onboarding processes, increase physical and digital accessibility for employees and clients alike and support ability-focused employee networks across the firm.

At UBS, we value collaboration, creativity and innovative thinking, and inclusivity is a cornerstone of our culture. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, and I’m committed to ensuring that we continue to lead by example.

We continuously seek ways to remove barriers for both employees and clients, and to make UBS accessible for everyone.

Sergio P. Ermotti, Group Chief Executive Officer, UBS

How are we continuously improving accessibility?

We listen. We work with our employee networks and take guidance from HR as well as digital and physical accessibility specialists - and we act.

Together we foster disability inclusion across our organization. Our accountability starts at the top with our Group Executive Board, and through their commitment to change we’re making a difference. Every day.

We’re an equal opportunity employer. We respect and empower all of our employees, and we support their diverse backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, skills and experiences.

We continuously upskill our recruiters, hiring managers and staff, and we’re auditing our recruitment processes to keep improving accessibility for all candidates. Thanks to our commitment to inclusive communication, we’re removing disability stigmas and promoting the value of our differences, not only to our employees, but also to society.

Among our many recognitions, we’re pleased to have been named a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion by the Disability Equality Index. Our journey is well under way, and we’ll keep digging deep to find new ways to strengthen the inclusiveness of our work environment.

We continuously raise disability awareness and equip our employees to engage with colleagues and clients with disabilities. We’re working with internal and external experts to enhance our learning library, developing toolkits, offering tailored learning paths and refreshing guidelines to support all our employees, line managers and HR teams.

Our goal is to empower employees to integrate disability inclusion across our businesses. Our partnering in the Generation Valuable - a groundbreaking reciprocal mentoring program from the Valuable 500, is a fantastic example of building the next generation of inclusive business leaders.

Our ability employee networks around the world are continuously expanding their membership. With a global Neurodiversity stream introduced in 2022, our community connects employees with various types of disabilities and colleagues who want to be engaged in strengthening disability awareness.

Our mission is to support a culture of engagement and belonging for all employees – including those with disabilities or who are carers of someone with a disability.

We focus on education around all aspects of disability (both visible and invisible) to strengthen our disability strategy and to help make UBS an even more inclusive organization. Our networks hold a variety of events and initiatives, support stronger connections and partner with external institutions to offer enhanced insight and expertise.

Our offices and branches are places for us to connect with our colleagues and clients. We want to ensure these spaces work for everyone and so are committed to removing barriers and improving accessibility for everyone - even exceeding local disability laws and standards, where possible.

As a firm, we’ve developed our own Global Inclusive Accessibility Standard to describe the design principles for a spectrum of different disabilities. In collaboration with our global accessibility partner, Mobility Mojo, we have also been independently assessing our premises using their world class methodology to enhance accessibility for all.

At UBS, we believe that everyone should have equal access to our financial tools and resources. We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) international standards and are working hard on further innovations to make sure our websites, platforms, applications and products meet the needs of our users.

We incorporate accessibility into our design process from the very beginning. But we don’t stop there – while developing our applications, we also test them with dedicated in-house accessibility advocates and consultants to help us continuously improve our work. We also provide regular trainings to raise awareness and equip our employees with the skills they need to ensure digital accessibility is considered in their daily work.

As technology and user expectations evolve, we continue to invest in accessible design, employee education and customer feedback to help ensure that our platforms and applications are accessible to all.
