How direct debit payment works

Learn more about the process and requirements for direct debit.

Process

  • You need to make regular payments in Swiss francs or euros to payees who don’t change.
  • You grant the payee (biller) a debit authorization, allowing them to charge the due amounts directly to your bank account.
  • The payee then instructs their financial institution to debit your account with the amounts due according to the agreed frequency.

Requirements for the use of the direct debit system

To benefit from the direct debit system, you need the following:

  • A UBS account
  • The payee offers direct debit as a payment option
  • Signing the authorization to charge the respective payee
