The CO2 tracker provides you with insights into your carbon footprint based on your transactions with UBS accounts and cards. UBS is using the methodology developed by Doconomy. For each payment, a merchant category code (MCC) is identified. In turn, each MCC has an emission factor indicating the carbon intensity of a product or server per Swiss franc. By multiplying the emission factor by the transaction amount, we can calculate that transaction’s carbon footprint. Based on your transactions, UBS knows where you shopped, but not the exact products or services you purchased. For this reason, the carbon footprint is only an estimation. You can find more details about carbon footprint in the FAQs.
