Cookie consent management refers to ensuring that we get users´ agreement before collecting behavioral data to support our analytics, personalization and advertising (re-targeting) activities.

Platform management of www.ubs.com has worked with the UBS Data Protection Office to update cookie consent management concepts to comply with current laws (e.g. GDPR) and regulations.

On www.ubs.com we rolled out the new consent functionality

  • "Opt-into tracking" functionality for users from strict countries (e.g. EU)*
  • "Opt-out of tracking" functionality for users from all other countries

Opt-in procedure

Strict-cookie consent

Certain jurisdictions (EU, UK, Channel Islands and Monaco) require an explicit user opt-in to tracking, targeting and personalization activities.

When a visitor visits our website for the first time, a "privacy settings" lightbox will open for the storage of visitor data. Here the visitor has to decide how the cookie settings for him/her are to be handled.

Cookie lightbox view desktop

User continues selecting default setting (main scenario):

  • No tracking on landing page before consent is given
  • Default settings disabled thus:
    • No language settings
    • Internal / external user classification not possible

In addition to the users´ location the strict cookie consent will also be applied based on the jurisdiction of the content. Any user who visits a page for a jurisdiction with strict consent requirements will be presented the strict cookie consent.

Example:

Any user who visits a "French" page on www.ubs.com/fr/... will be presented the strict consent

A user located in France will see the strict consent on any www.ubs.com/... page

Opt-out procedure

Light-cookie consent

In all other jurisdictions (outside of EU, UK, Channel Islands and Monaco), UBS requires that users are informed about tracking, targeting and personalization activities on the site and an opt-out functionality is offered.

User is informed that we collect data for analytics, personalization, advertising, etc. purposes.

User can chose to take action to opt-out of this data collection (see next image).

The opt-out procedure requires the user to actively confirm that he/she does not wish to have data collected.

By selecting the "Privacy Settings" link in the footer area, the setting can be adjusted.

How it works

Countries can be configured to be either by default opt-in or opt-out for the current categories of cookies and tracking:

  • Statistics and advertising
These cookies show us how our website is used and enable us to provide visitors with tailored content while browsing and as well as display advertisements based on their interests. Some data might be shared with third parties.
  • User Preferences
We use these to show visitors the correct language and country homepage for each visit.

Difference between opt-in and opt-out procedures

The opt-out procedure requires the user to actively confirm that he/she does not wish to have data collected. With the opt-in procedure, the user must actively confirm that he/she wants data to be collected - i.e. that he/she wants to set a cookie on his/her hard drive.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that make the Internet work. When a user is on the Internet and calls up a website, the cookie is sent to the browser together with the requested website.

How do cookies work?

When someone visits a website, the cookie is stored in the browser. If the user visits the same website again later, the browser sends the small text file back to the website. This can recognize the values stored in the cookie. With the help of cookies, a user can therefore be recognised in the broadest sense.

Privacy statement

UBS has developed this Statement to describe how and what type of data will be collected from users of the UBS Website and the purposes for which UBS may collect, share or disclose the data.
