Article publishing - mechanics

An article page can use a full width content area or one with a right area. Use the article template and populate it with content and structured article data (e.g. headline, lead, tags, image, etc.). Activity streams displays headlines and images in various layouts.

How it works

  • The article template is designed to support content marketing initiatives that apply our diverse and high-quality content to attract traffic and shape our brand
  • The article head sits on top of article pages. It displays the structured elements that fill in the elements of the activity streams.
  • An article page can use a full width content area or one with a right area. The right area layout suits the needs for reader-friendly column width.
  • Article display page
    • When rendering an article in conjunction with an article display page, the entire article page is usually displayed, including information such as links that are only relevant to the space of the source article and not to the article display page.
    • For this reason, an additional content area (parsys) on article templates is available. The new, additional parsys should contain content that is only relevant to the source article and will not be displayed when the article is rendered in conjunction with an article display page.
    • If articles have their own disclaimer, this can be overridden if the article display page has set its own disclaimer.

How to use it

  • Various elements must be defined when creating a new article. This includes (subject to additions and modifications):
    • Title caption
    • Headline
    • Lead text
    • Image
    • Author name
    • Category tag
    • Additional tags
    • Media type (displayed on "grid" and "insights" layout)
  • Activity streams subscribe to tags and display a preview of the most recent articles with the matching tags.
  • The article preview of an activity stream is a teaser linking to the article page.

Note

To publish an article you always need a picture.

Important note for accessibility

aem view

All article teaser have a "Show more" link which is automatically displayed, leading to the article.

By default this page would result in having several links with the same unspecific text "Show more", which is a clear breach of the guidelines, as a blind could not distinguish the links for making a choice.

Therefore the article link text can be adjusted manually by adding a hidden complement.

A good example would be: 'More about the article-template'.

Please always add meaningful article link text to your Article.

Separate content area (parsys) on article page

  • Added a second parsys to the Article Template that will be omitted once the article is rendered via an Article Display page.
  • This allows that content that is unique to the site context of the article (for example - Contact Box) will not be shown if displayed within a different site context via Article Display page.
